In the costuming community and social media, I can be found under my cosplay name "Archangel Cosplays". But now I would like to take a minute to formally introduce myself!
About Me
I'm Erin, and I've been creating costumes for as long as I can remember. I started sewing when I was eight years old, and really took flight with it in high school. In the 15 years that followed, that childhood hobby has grown into a lifelong passion for costuming, fabrication, and bringing imaginative ideas to life.
My love for making runs in the family. My grandmother was a professional seamstress in Italy, and while I never had the chance to meet her, I've grown up hearing stories about her from my mother. She often jokes that the "sewing gene" skipped a generation and went straight from my grandmother to me. Whether that's true or not, creating has always felt like a natural part of who I am.
Over the years, I've had the opportunity to work professionally in theatre as both a costumer and a performer. That experience gave me a unique perspective on costume creation—not only how a piece should look, but how it needs to function for the person wearing it. Comfort, durability, movement, visibility, and performance are all things I consider throughout the design and construction process.
While I enjoy working with all kinds of materials and techniques, I have a special love for foam fabrication and complex builds. Some of my favorite projects are the ones that combine multiple disciplines: textile work, lighting effects, moving parts, articulation, interactive features, and the engineering challenges that come with bringing them all together. I love discovering how things work and finding creative ways to turn ambitious ideas into reality.
I'm incredibly proud to have received several awards for my work throughout my journey as a maker. While those accomplishments mean a great deal to me, what continues to motivate me most is the impact these creations have on the people who wear and experience them.
At the heart of everything I make is a simple goal: to bring a little more playfulness, joy, and wonder into the world. When something that once existed only in imagination can be brought into reality, it creates a moment of curiosity and excitement that feels a lot like being a child again. Especially with myself being a person with autism, in a world that can often feel overwhelming, I believe those moments matter.
No matter the project, I love helping people bring their passions to life and creating something they can truly connect with. Being trusted with someone's character, vision, or dream project is something I never take for granted, and I'm grateful every day that this craft allows me to share in that creative journey.
